There are a number of steroids used for body building out there today. Novaldex and Clomid are two of the leading ones and there are many discussions about which one is the better drug. They are not so different and indeed share many of the same properties.To begin with they are anti-estrogens and also share a triphenylethylene compounds group. There are also similarities in their structures and are both selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). They also have mixed antagonistic and agonistic properties.
That is to say that when it comes to some tissues, they block estrogen by changing the receptors ability to bind. However, in others, they act as the estrogen and activate the receptor so that the true estrogen is unable to bind. They work in the following way. They counter the unconstructive feedback given by estrogens on the hypothalamus and by doing that activate the increased release of Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH). The result is that the LH output of the pituitary gland increases as well as testosterone levels in the testes. This happens with both drugs not just Clomid as most people think.
Although many people think that Clomid is the better drug, a test done in Belgium in the late 1970s shows that Nolvadex is the more potent of the two. 20 mg of Nolvadex daily increased the levels of testosterone in serum to 142% of the baseline. It took 150 mg of Clomid to get the same results.

Before and after treatment with Clomid and Nolvadex, researchers tested GnRH stimulation. They found significantly different results with each of the drugs. The patient was given 100mcg of GnRH and the level of LH output from the pituitary gland was then measured.
If the pituitary proved more sensitive to GnRH then more LH was produced which then increased the levels of Testosterone in the testes. The results were taken after ten days of treatment. It was found that with Nolvadex treatment the pituitary’s sensitivity to GnRH rose slightly while with 150 mg of Clomid it decreased.
It can therefore be concluded that Nolvadex has the more anti-estrogenic effect between the two where the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Testicular Axis is in concerned. As such Nolvadex offers some advantages that Clomid does not offer. Additionally, Nolvadex is the better solution for long term use. Clomid desensitizes the pituitary with time, while Nolvedax does not. This is the biggest plus of all.
