Anabolic Steroid Information

It has been said in the past that anabolic steroids cause effects on the person’s mood due to the increase of androgen in the body. However, it has been found that a decrease of androgen causes the body and mind to perform more slowly. Additionally, there is a reduction in potency and libido as well as gravitation towards being moody and depressed.

On the contrary increased androgen levels stimulate mental and physical function and cause one to be more assertive although some do tend towards aggression. The studies that have been done in the last few years show pretty much the same thing.

A study that tested 34 hypogonodal males showed that taking anabolic steroids increased their sexual desire and libido and physical and mental activity. They were given 40 – 60 mg of testosterone undecanoate orally on a daily basis for 8 months. None of the patients who took part in this study reported any side effects in the duration of the study.

In another study, a double blind, random group a study was carried out that included both mesterolone 150 mg and undecanoate 120 mg taken orally on a daily basis. It was found that the testosterone undeconoate showed a marked elevation in sexual activity as well as mental state in only 2 weeks time. Again no side effects are reported in this study.

In a 1981 study the patients rated themselves as having improved in vigor, fatigue and anxiety. However there was no significant change in levels of depression even when 160 mg of testosterone undeconoate 160 mg replaced oleic acid which was the placebo. The study lasted 4 months and many of the men said they had reduced anger levels and improved well being. They could not establish a consistent relationship between androgen administration and mood in men who were given testosterone enanthate in doses ranging from 100 mg to 400 mg taken in 2 doses per month for 5 months.

There were increased erections and there was 1 case of mood change that was directly related to treatment. This however, was related to the fact that the individual guessed he was on a placebo and got upset. Bi weekly mood ratings found no significant changes in the patients receiving testosterone enanthate in doses ranging from 25 mg, 50 mg, 100 mg and 250 mg in a 5 month period, twice a month.

Although the tests differed, none of them showed any undesirable psychological effects of taking anabolic-androgenic steroids.
